The Alliance for Responsible Food and Environmental Policy (ARFP) is a nonprofit nonpartisan organization uniting people in an effort to establish government and corporate policies that protect human health and biological diversity. We believe that the food we eat should be produced both naturally and humanely and should not be prepared by using processes or ingredients that have been shown to be detrimental to human or animal health. Practices of agribusinesses and other corporations should not purposely interfere with biological diversity or unduly hasten the destruction of our planet's soil or water resources. The Alliance will educate our members on current corporate policies and government regulations that govern our food chain and promote grassroots efforts to create a food supply that is healthy, sustainable, and affordable.

 

ARFEP Programs and Priorities

1. The Alliance will disseminate educational information regarding current food safety challenges and risks to public health in a systematic manner through written materials,internet podcasts, videos, pictures and donor-created 'food action' webpages.

2. The Alliance will lobby local, state and federal appointees and elected officials as well as training individual members and interested parties to lobby as well.

3. The Alliance will draft petitions to government officials and representatives and submit original letters to editors about food system issues of concern. The Alliance will also provide phone numbers and facilitate phone/email contact to key representatives on food safety issues.

4. The ARFEP will draft Amicus briefs to courts as they hear cases on food safety issues.

5. The ARFEP will help draft meaningful legislation and policies at the local, state, and federal level to ensure food safety and the protection of public health of the residents of the United States of America.

6. ARFEP will promote awareness of the dangers associated with decreasing environmental and animal biodiversity and the effects of this situation on public health.

7. ARFEP will address issues related to farm animal cruelty along with the use of hormones and other substances on animals along with the associated effects on public health.

8. ARFEP will address the necessity of maintaining a public supply of clean and healthy water. The Alliance will focus on making healthy water available to all Americans through holding Congress accountable to adequately funding the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund..

9. We will work to establish a federal maximum wage for executives involved in the food industry which will not exceed 20 times that of what the lowest paid worker in their respective company earns. ARFEP will also work to close loopholes in federal legislation and ensure that all farm workers are paid a minimum wage, regardless of whether they work on a small or large farm or if they are hired through crew leaders or farm labor contractors. We will also work with federal officials to ensure that wage theft laws are enforced.

10. ARFEP will work to make sure that farm workers have access to workplace benefits that labor laws guarantee to workers in other industries like worker's compensation.

11. We will publish information on how representatives vote and the legislation they sponsor and how their constituents feel about these decisions.

 

The Alliance for Responsible Food and Environmental Policy Education Fund is a citiane's group that supports the mission of the Alliance for Responsible Food Policy by researching and reporting on health and nutrition policy issues of concern to Americans, engaging in non-partisan political education focused on training community advocates, performing non-partisan voter registration drives, and making grants to support community nutrition education and nutrition advocacy programs.
